Update & Christmas day

Hello!

Sorry I have posted in a while but I have been so busy with Christmas and family and my new youtube channel! I've really been enjoying the holidays; it's good to finally relax!

Not sure if you've heard me mention this but I am going to be doing a diploma in make-up next year at Tafe. I am so excited to start! I've never really known what to do with my life, there's so much pressure from school to figure out what career you are going to choose. But finally, after 12 years of trying to figure out; I have decided.

Make-up is one of the only things I have a passion for so I am really looking forward to starting my course.

Anyway! I hope you all had a magical Christmas with your family and friends, and you were spoilt rotten :)
Because I certainly was.

I think my favourite thing about Christmas is sitting around the tree, giving out gifts and receiving them. It's so exciting, the vibe throughout the room is so happy and it makes me happy seeing people's reactions to the gifts you've bought them.

What's your favourite part?

On Christmas Eve I went to look at Christmas lights with my little sister. This is the first year she has really understood Christmas, last year she was much too young. So this year was a little overwhelming for her, but exciting none-the-less.

Christmas day was filled with food, family and fun. I ate a little bit too much (actually WAY too much) food. I am very grateful for all I was given and to the very large family I have who visited.

I got given lots of gifts such as clothes, perfume, make-up, candles, vouchers and chocolate, which is basically everything I could ever need.

Boxing day shopping was crazy! So many people rushing around, trying to find the best sales. I bought a few different make-up items (surprise, surprise) that will probably be featured on my YouTube channel along with my Christmas presents.

Again, I hope you had an amazing Christmas and are enjoying your holidays. Let me know what you got up to this Christmas in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

It's Christmas!

It’s been an awfully long year but now that I think about it, it’s also gone so quickly. It’s strange to think that just months ago I was starting my last year at school and now look where I am! Graduated and living in freedom. Thank god.

This is without a doubt my favourite time of year, everyone seems so much more joyful and happy. Everywhere you go you see tinsel, Christmas colours and Christmas lights. People around the world come together to celebrate, including my family. In some ways I dread having to deal with all my relatives being in the same place at the same time, it’s something I am grateful of but sometimes you want to escape.

But nonetheless, Christmas is something I look forward to every year.

Tilly (my sister) and I decorated our Christmas tree the other day. I don’t think I’ve seen her this excited for Christmas before; she hasn’t ever understood what was going on because she was too young.

She’s two now and putting up the tree was something she enjoyed. Although she wasn’t the best helper, she did try.

What are your plans this Christmas? Are you going on holiday? Staying home?

I am very jealous of all you people having a white Christmas, as living here in the Australia, I’ve never experienced it! Our traditional Christmas is to have family over, swim in the pool or beach, cook on the BBQ and drinking beer if you’re a dad.

Guess it’s a little different all over the world. One day I’ll come and join you lucky people and freeze my ass off. Hehe

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS

Mia

Mac Soft & Gentle

At the moment Mac Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skin Finish is my absolute favourite thing! I have been looking for a high lighter for a long time that looks this good. It doesn’t look as shimmery on skin but looks bright and beautiful on top of your cheekbones.

I use the tiniest bit each time and it lasts all day and shimmers in the sunlight. It also looks amazing in photos!

I’ve been using a $2 highlighter from Boe, which obviously doesn’t do anything close to what Soft & Gentle does. It costs $47 which is pretty expensive and I wouldn’t usually spend that much. But since I got my make up done for formal at Mac, I got to redeem the $90 on Mac products. Yeee!

I also bought liquid eyeliner, which I was in desperate need of. It’s not amazing, probably the same as any normal liquid eyeliner.

I cannot get enough of the Mac highlighter, so if you are looking for a good quality, long lasting and gorgeous highlighter then Mac is the place to go!

Thanks for reading! Let me know of any cheaper alternatives to this highlighter?

Update: Graduation/Formal/Schoolies

Hey guys!

Hope your all enjoying the Christmas holidays! Is this the best time of year or what?!

Thought I would update you on a few things happening in my life. I’ve just graduated high school forever! 12 years of schooling is finally over. It is the weirdest feeling knowing I have all this free time! I guess I will be able to update my blog more often :)

Anyway I am going to be doing a make up diploma at Tafe next year which I am so so so excited for, I can’t wait to learn about all things make up! I’m also going to keep working at my casual job while I study. Other than that I haven’t got much planned for next year, I suppose I’ll just see where life takes me!

I’ve just come back from schoolies, which if you don’t know what schoolies is then it’s something people who have just graduated high school in Australia do. It’s basically just a big week of partying. But know I’m really run down and sick from not sleeping or eating properly for a week! Ha.

So know that you are all updated, do you wanna see some formal pics!?

HERE YOU GO:

Girl Online Book Review

I don’t think anyone understands how excited I was when I found out Zoella was writing a book! And when it arrived to my post yesterday I almost screamed of excitement. If you haven’t heard of Zoe Sugg’s new book Girl Online then first of all where have you been!? And secondly it is about a young girl going through the awkward teenage years, trying to figure out where she fits in, in life. She goes through a crazy journey of friendships, boys, travelling, family and dealing with anxiety.

It was so easy to read, it arrived at about 10am and I was finished by about 7pm. At the start it was a bit slow but without a slow start you wouldn’t have gotten to know the characters as well.

I think it’s a really good book for teenager’s going through some of the same problems growing up. I think I really would’ve benefitted if I read the book when I was a bit younger because it is so relevant to what I was facing a few years ago. Not that I’ve had problems with anxiety, just that I didn’t really know where I fitted in like Penny (the main character).

The books storyline was very consistent, characters from the start of the book weren’t forgotten towards the end and all characters were interesting in their own way. Every issue and dilemma Penny faced were real life situations many people go through.

I loved how eye opening the book was to someone who has never faced anxiety herself. I think it will really help people understand what panic attacks are like, so if they ever go through one or have to help someone in that situation; then they will know what to do.

I also loved how Zoe mentioned YouTube and blogs and the Internet, I don’t recall that ever being done before in a book. I think for older generations who don’t understand the Internet or YouTube, it will open their eyes to how amazing the Internet can be. And not be as naive about it as my mum, all she says is be careful, like the Internet is this dangerous, scary place.

I hope you all at some point read Zoe Sugg’s first novel. It was fun, heartbreaking, relatable, interesting and could make you feel really happy all in one. I’m pretty sure it’s available almost in every country, so just search Girl Online Zoe Sugg on Google and I’m sure it will come up.

If you've already read it, please let me know what you liked!

Thanks for reading!

I miss the snow

Earlier on this year I went to Canberra in Australia to go skiing at Thredbo. Thredbo is one of the most popular skiing destinations in Australia and I want to go back! It wasn’t my first time skiing and it won’t be my last, I’m hoping next year to go again, if I’m not too busy!

I went with my mum and one of my brothers and stayed for about a week. The hotel wasn’t as nice as it looked on the website but it had a good vibe & was right outside the mountain. You could basically ski out the front door.

I haven’t been skiing since I was ten so it took me a little while to get used to it again. By the last day I was skiing really well but then unfortunately I had to leave.

The first day skiing was the hardest. My brother thought I would be okay to go on a really steep run. It was a blue run, the second hardest of runs. I was not okay. I ended up having to take my ski’s off and sliding down the slope on my bum.

I wish it were filmed because it was the scariest/funniest/ most embarrassing thing I’ve ever done. I can’t explain how fast I was going; I thought I’d never stop. And I screamed soooo loud haha. When I got to the bottom I started laughing and then crying because of the adrenaline.  By the end of the week I ski down that scary steep slope with ease.

My brother thought this would be a good way to cool down his coke... Because the freezer wasn't good enough...

By day we skied and by night we went to lovely restaurants and explored the village. I love the style of clothes too, scarves & beanies & Ugg boots & gloves. The slopes were so gorgeous when it was sunny, the light reflected off the slopes and the contrast between the blue sky and white snow was so pretty.

Some people may be used to the snow but for people living in Australia and especially the Gold Coast never see it. So I am glad I got to have this experience.

I want to go back so bad. It was so much fun! I wish I could live there.

Have you been to the snow? Been skiing? Snowboarding? Let me know, I’d love to hear your experiences. Thank you for reading!

How to Survive High School

Ahhhh, high school. The awkward years. And for me, they’re almost over. But for some (or many) of you, you’re still going. Maybe with 4 years to go or 4 months to go. I hate school and somehow I have less than 2 weeks left and then I never have to go back! YAY!

The worst things about high school are the people. Teachers are the worst. Students are the worst. The classes are the worst. So here’s how to get through with average grades and maybe a few friends if you’re lucky.

1.    Don’t take it for granted. Once you leave you probably won’t stay with the friends you have now. Remember that.

2.    Grades are NOT the most important thing in the world. They do NOT define you. Try your best and if you get a D then whatever. You get an A, great. Everyone’s different and the school system of grading doesn’t always show how capable you are.

3.    If you want something, go for it. Don’t sit in the background letting it pass you by. If you want to get into a certain university, do it. There is nothing stopping you. If you like that boy or girl, go for it. “If not now, then when?”

4.    You will come across so many different people. From different countries and different lifestyles. Just because they’re different doesn’t mean they deserve to be disrespected. So treat everyone equally whether they’re girls, boys, straight, gay, black, white, Asian, English, fat or thin.

5.    Being popular shouldn’t be your life goal. Everyone will forget about you whether you’re the hottest person there or the shyest. Just because they’re popular doesn’t mean they’re perfect or happy. Give up; popularity doesn’t matter. It’s taken me 5 years to understand this.

6.    Don’t compare your self to anybody. You’ll end up feeling crappy and insecure.

7.    Bullying is so common and there’s no way to avoid it. I remember how easily bullied I was in the first few years. Even before high school. I think it shaped me into the person I am today. If someone says a bad word about you; then you don’t need him or her in your life.

8.    Don’t be shy. If you feel uncomfortable, say something. If you feel upset, tell someone. Make friends. It’s that easy, I promise.

9.     I know right now this teacher is the biggest asshole/bitch in the world. But you’ll run into them in 3 years and realize they are a genuine, caring person and regret treating them so rudely and with such disrespect. Give them a chance.

10.  Music is your friend. It will help you through any situation. If you don’t want to talk to someone, plug your headphones in. Easy.

11.  Study even though you HATE it so, so much. Do your homework. Even if in a year it won’t matter whether you remembered to practice that equation, it matters now. So do it.

12. Number twelve, the last one. 12 because of twelve years of schooling. Here goes, this is an important one.

Be nice to people. Incase you didn’t know, being mean to people doesn’t get you anywhere. And everyone at high school is going through the same thing, so be nice and hopefully they’ll be nice back.

Thank you for reading and good byeeeee!

Looking for Alaska

Dammit John Green. Making me ball my eyes out over a book yet again. I should’ve learnt from The Fault in our Stars. Looking for Alaska has ruined me.

How dare you John Green, how dare you. I am only half way through but from the start I knew. I knew it would make me incredibly sad and regret reading it but I did it anyway. I’m so scared to continue reading but I have to, I’m addicted.

I should’ve just finished reading it while it was happy. Stuff John for making me feel this way AHH.

If you’ve read it, great, then you’ll understand what I’m talking about. If you haven’t then you are blissfully unaware of the feeling I am currently feeling. Good for you. Keep it that way.

Nah it’s really a good book and I cannot wait to finish. I don’t get much time to read, usually by bedtime I’m too tired but I honestly can’t sleep without reading it at least once a day. I love John’s style of writing. I don’t know how he does it. I wish I could write like that. He knows how to make you laugh, cry, smile, frustrated-ly rip your hair out and so on.

Well that’s it. Just a quick post to tell you how I feel about John Green and his incredible books. I can’t wait to read more and more. Thanks John.

And thanks to you for reading this.

Good-bye

#HeForShe

If you have not heard about the HeForShe campaign then where have you been!?
Emma Watson made a speech at the UN recently about gender
equality. It was a very powerful speech and the first campaign spoken about gender equality at the UN. Here’s her speech; yes it is long. But 10 minutes of your life isn’t a big deal if it changes your perspective on equality through the sexes.

Please watch if you haven’t already - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v5Dq-CZc0s

Emma Watson mentions many problems with gender inequality throughout her speech, such as men being paid more in the workplace and women and men not being treated the same socially. She also reminds us that no country in the world has achieved gender equality.

I am so shocked that it’s 2014 and we still have stupid problems like Gender Inequality, Racial Discrimination, Marriage Inequality and more.

Just want to quickly touch on Marriage Inequality. It is slowly being fixed but there are no places in Australia where it’s legal for two men or two women to get married. Some parts of America allow it but imagine having to travel to America just to marry the person you love.
I’m straight, it feels weird to have to announce that but I’m trying to make my point that if two people of the same gender get married; how will that affect straight people? It won’t. If you don’t like something, look away. It’s none of your business anyway.

Please watch Zach Garry’s YouTube video on Stigmas & Sexuality, it’s worth it, I promise.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRR10z2BBSA
He basically puts all my thoughts on inequality into words.

Anyway, the reason I’m not calling it ‘Feminism’ is because too often people confuse the meaning of Feminism. It doesn’t mean women think men don’t deserve rights or respect. It means women want the SAME rights and respect – equality.

I love how Emma Watson says that Gender Inequality isn’t just about women. It’s also about men and their part in the issue. 7:37 minutes into the video she speaks about how men are valued less as a parent, men never want to ask for help, how they “always” need to appear manly and strong. This is wrong, if they need help why shouldn’t they ask? If a man is upset or cries, it shouldn’t make them less of a man.

There is so much more on my mind about this issue but I want to keep this somewhat short and sweet. I hope you watched the video because it means so much to me and many women and men around the world.

My names Emelia Smith and I support the campaign #HeForShe.

Thank you so so much for reading.
