#HeForShe

If you have not heard about the HeForShe campaign then where have you been!?
Emma Watson made a speech at the UN recently about gender
equality. It was a very powerful speech and the first campaign spoken about gender equality at the UN. Here’s her speech; yes it is long. But 10 minutes of your life isn’t a big deal if it changes your perspective on equality through the sexes.

Please watch if you haven’t already - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v5Dq-CZc0s

Emma Watson mentions many problems with gender inequality throughout her speech, such as men being paid more in the workplace and women and men not being treated the same socially. She also reminds us that no country in the world has achieved gender equality.

I am so shocked that it’s 2014 and we still have stupid problems like Gender Inequality, Racial Discrimination, Marriage Inequality and more.

Just want to quickly touch on Marriage Inequality. It is slowly being fixed but there are no places in Australia where it’s legal for two men or two women to get married. Some parts of America allow it but imagine having to travel to America just to marry the person you love.
I’m straight, it feels weird to have to announce that but I’m trying to make my point that if two people of the same gender get married; how will that affect straight people? It won’t. If you don’t like something, look away. It’s none of your business anyway.

Please watch Zach Garry’s YouTube video on Stigmas & Sexuality, it’s worth it, I promise.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRR10z2BBSA
He basically puts all my thoughts on inequality into words.

Anyway, the reason I’m not calling it ‘Feminism’ is because too often people confuse the meaning of Feminism. It doesn’t mean women think men don’t deserve rights or respect. It means women want the SAME rights and respect – equality.

I love how Emma Watson says that Gender Inequality isn’t just about women. It’s also about men and their part in the issue. 7:37 minutes into the video she speaks about how men are valued less as a parent, men never want to ask for help, how they “always” need to appear manly and strong. This is wrong, if they need help why shouldn’t they ask? If a man is upset or cries, it shouldn’t make them less of a man.

There is so much more on my mind about this issue but I want to keep this somewhat short and sweet. I hope you watched the video because it means so much to me and many women and men around the world.

My names Emelia Smith and I support the campaign #HeForShe.

Thank you so so much for reading.

Happy 17th Birthday to me!

How have I been alive for 17 years? I’m almost two decades old. That sounds like a really long time. But in the whole scheme of things it’s probably not that long. Do you think I’ll be getting grey hairs soon? Lol.

So I can get my license now! My test is booked so keep your fingers crossed that I’ll pass!
I got my first car 2 days ago, my mum came into my work and handed me the keys and said "Your cars in the car park."
I was like !?!??!?????
Then I started crying at work.... Oops
This is it, my baby suzuki swift, name suggestions anyone?

I went to The Hub on the Gold Coast with some friends on Thursday, it was a really good night and lots of food was consumed. Here's some photo's

They gave me free dessert for my birthday. And everyone in the restaurant was singing happy birthday to me, soooo embarrassing hahaha.

I’m glad it’s finally my birthday, all year I’ve been stressing about other people’s birthdays and trying to find them the perfect gift. Now I can relax and celebrate. I hate always being the youngest. All my friends call me a baby because they are all 17 and I was the only 16 year old. That's why it sucks to have a birthday so late in the year.

But even though I’m scared of scary movies and get scared easily I still love Halloween. So it’s exciting to have my birthday in the same month as Halloween.
It also means that Christmas is coming soon! Every year around my birthday they start bringing out Christmas decorations and cards out, making me even more excited for the end of the year.

It been an amazing birthday weekend and I am so grateful for all my friends and family, even if I don’t say that enough.

I feel that this year has been different to all my other birthdays. In Australia turning 16 isn’t that big of a deal, turning 17 is, because you get your license and are one year closer to becoming a legal adult.

I think that this next year is going to be a good one. I have so much to look forward to as I come closer and closer to finishing school. Please be good to me 17.

Look at baby Mia!

Me and my brothers ^

Thanks for reading! Is it anyone else’s birthday today?

Beauty Fav's

Whether it be make up, hair products, soaps and lotions or nail polish; I am obsessed with all things beauty. As most girls are… So today I will be writing about my favourite beauty products.

Let’s start with make up, I’ve been using Revlon Lip Butter for ages and still love them! They are not only soft and smooth like lip barm but also vibrant and bright like lipstick. They’re long lasting and the range of colours are beautiful.
I use Juicy Papaya and Sweet Tart, they are great Summer & Spring colours.

True Match Correcting Concealer by Loreal Paris
I use this almost every day, either over my foundation or just by itself. Either way it is perfect for covering imperfections and dark circles. It also helps highlight my face. LOVE it.

Another skin care product I have always used is Dr. Lewinn’s Refining Toner. I use it every morning and night after washing my face. It hydrates my face and removes excess make up.

Moving on to hair products, Aroma Oil by NAK is so good for restoring damaged hair. I have been using it for years and seen a difference in the healthiness of my hair. It is used for heat protection and controlling frizz (which is great for my very frizzy hair).

Batiste Dry Shampoo works better then any dry shampoo I’ve used. I only wash my hair every two/three days so I don’t have to straighten it as often (the joys of having curly hair). I bought a really expensive one and it did nothing, then I bought Batiste Dry Shampoo for $5 - $10 and it's so much better. It helps greasy/oily hair look freshly washed in less than 30 secs. Also good for teasing hair and creating the ‘messy’ look.

Fake tan! Bondi Sands Self Tanning Lotion does the job.
It works well if used correctly and lasts quite a while. If you’re scared of fake tanning yourself and always have your tan done at a salon then Bondi Sands is the way to go, cheap, smells amazing and easy to use.

OMG. Soap & Glory Smoothie Star – The Breakfast Scrub.
It is amazing. Smells amazing. & makes your skin feel amazing. That’s all I have to say. AMAZING.

Victoria’s Secret Hello Darling – White Nectarine & Peony body mist and body lotion.
I love the smell of both products and the lotion is really smooth on your skin. Love the body products from Victoria Secret!

That concludes all the beauty products for now… Hope you enjoyed reading this post and if you would like to buy the products listed then just search the name on Google :)

A day with Tilly

Let me introduce you to my little sister Tilly Lynn. She just turned 2 back in August and is probably my favourite person on Earth. I found these pictures of her on my computer from April this year and thought they were too cute not to write a post about.
My dad put up this little swing for Tilly under our Bali hut and she loves it.  It even has a place for food so she can sit and eat in it too!

Tilly finds it hard to say my name; it’s understandable. Emelia is a hard name to say. (ee-mee-lee-ah) So her attempt to say my name usually sounds like ‘Mia’, ‘Mila’ or 'Meena'. This is where Mia came from for a nickname and also why Mia is a part of my blog name.

I love her hair like this in two little buns. We find it very hard to control her crazy hair so by using a variety of hair ties and clips my step mum managed to do this adorable style. It’s hard enough to keep her still for long enough let alone actually doing her hair.

We live on the water at my dad’s house so we went down to the lake to feed the ducks. To Tilly’s disappointment there were no ducks that day, only fish. So we fed the fish instead. I took these cute photos on my Iphone and was surprised how well they turned out. They are some of my favourite photos of Tilly.

After lake and swing adventure we headed out for afternoon tea at a place called BSKT next to the surf club at Nobby’s beach. I’m pretty sure the initials BSKT stand for the owner’s names, but I always end up calling it Biscuit.
There is a place for the kids to play which was is lucky for Tilly.

I ordered a smoothie called a Miranda Kerr. I mostly choose it because of its name but it was delicious. The ingredients were – coconut sorbet, almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, coconut oil, honey & cinnamon.

We also ordered a fruit bowl to share, which was just as good.

Everything on BSKT’s menu is healthy; they have options for people with gluten intolerance and vegetarians.

Overall Tilly had a very good day, I’m glad she enjoys playing with me as much as I do.
